Abstract

Self-esteem affects the processing and extraction bias of positive or negative information. This study aimed to investigate the effects of different types of self-esteem on memory bias under time pressure. In the experiment, 2(time pressure group and no time pressure group) X2 (high self-esteem group and low self-esteem group) X2 (positive words and negative words) were mixed design. The effects of self-esteem on self-memory bias under time pressure were studied experimentally. The results showed that: Self-esteem affects memory bias under time pressure, and supports the inconsistency-negativity model. The memory extraction stage will have an impact on the memory effect. Specifically, applying time pressure in the memory extraction stage will change the memory effect model.
