Intelligent Parcel Receiving Box System (ParcelRestBox) Towards the Future of Malaysia Smart City Development
Main Article Content
Abstract
This paper presents research on a mailbox that equips with concept of Internet of Things (IoT), which will be implemented in Malaysia. There are 3 major reasons that motivate this research; parcel theft, inconvenience in parcel receiving when owner is not available, and parcel are exposed to external environment. The purpose of this study is to identify the similar work of mailbox design and invention in aiding the prototype of Intelligent Parcel Receiving Box System (ParcelRestBox) and to propose the design of ParcelRestBox towards the future of Smart City Development. This study aims to ease the postman’s job during the delivery on daily process and to the recipient during the parcel receiving, to reduce complexity in delivering and receiving the parcel and to secure and protect the parcel from theft and bad weather. The research methodology used is qualitative research where the researcher conducted an interview, observation, and patent document to collect the data. The researcher evaluates the data collection by using Document Analysis and Thematic Analysis Techniques. The expert evaluation is done to give feedback on the design of ParcelRestBox. The expected outcome of this research is the design of an intelligent parcel box meant for a smart city development in Malaysia. The proposed design embedded RFID technology for the code tracking, web camera for the parcel monitoring and motion sensor to notify the recipient via the mobile application.
