Current State of Digital Transformation in Japan and Research on the Design of AI Operational Efficiency Platform

Abstract

In recent years, Japan has shown rapid progress in digital transformation (DX). The accelerated aging society, in particular, has made the promotion of DX an even more urgent task. This research focuses on the current challenges of DX and explores the potential solutions using AI technology. Specifically, we compare and examine the design and functionalities of OEP (Operational Efficiency Platform) and AI-OEP (AI- Operational Efficiency Platform). We also propose the solution to promote digitalization of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and it also works as the help to overcome the issues related to their maintaining legacy systems. AI-OEP enhances the efficiency of data analysis and utilization, enabling accurate understanding and response to users’ needs. This research demonstrates the effectiveness of AI integration as a countermeasure to the "2025 Digital Cliff" problem and eventually it provides solutions that can be applied to cases in other countries facing similar challenges.
